The Greek teachers travelled to Valencia attracted by the Museum of Computer Science from UPV. Their purpose is collecting information and also ideas in order to create their own museum in the island of Chios.
A group of teachers, responsible of the IT department in a Greek High School, travelled to Valencia this week with the main purpose of visiting the Higher Technical School of Computer Engineering (ETSINF) facilities and to get first-hand knowledge of how the Museum of Computer Science of UPV works.
The aim for these lecturers was finding out about the internal functioning of the UPV museum, in order to create a similar one in the Greek island of Chios, their place of origin. ‘They came to see our museum and learn a bit more about the history, the dissemination of heritage project, cultural activities, design of the exhibition, etc. the main idea is inspiring them on their own museum project’ says Director of UPV Computer Science Museum Xavier Molero.
Throughout five days, from 27 to 31 March, the Greek lecturers, headed by Polykarpos Skapinalis and Konstantinos Smyrioudis who coordinated the initiative, enjoyed a large programme of activities including guided tours through the facilities of the university campus but also through the museum itself. The programme counted with informative talks where the museum collection’s director covered every aspect of his creation and the current dissemination of heritage project.
Moreover, the group had known in detail the basis of UPV and ETSINF by means of a talk in which deputy director of International Relations Juan Carlos Ruiz took part, they participated in Retro Computing and Scratch Workshops, given respectively by teacher of the host centre Jorge González and MUGI’s student and intern of the museum María Angéles Espinosa. They had also the opportunity of visiting the museum’s basement with student of computer engineering Antoni Giménez, as well as learning in detail about the catalogue management with DOMUS and its website.
