El Museo de Informática integrado en la red ICOM de la UNESCO
  • The ICOM-Spain Executive Council  approved to introduce the Museum of Computer Science of UPVto this international organization at its last meeting.
  • The administrative process with ICOM global Secretariat started at the end of 2014 in Paris, in order to incorporate the Museum of Computer Science in partner global database of International Council of Museums, ICOM.
  • This allows ETSINF staff to benefit from the advantages of being a member of this international network. These advantages include:
    • Taking part in International Committees, professional groups dedicated to study particular type of museums, in order to boost the international exchange of scientific information, professional standards development, cooperation projects and the adoption of recommendations.
    • As member of ICOM, the Museum can share information in the new collaborative platform ICOMMUNITY, where all members of ICOM share their information.
    • Through ICOM-Spain website we will have access to updated information about the organization and affiliated institutions such as activities, programme of courses, conferences, etc., news section, forum, newspaper archives and so on.
    • We will enjoy preferential rates such as Altamira Press, UNESCO, Oxford University Press, etc., – We will also have access to UNESCO-ICOMs Information Centre.

  • The International Council of Museums (ICOM) is an international organization of museums and professionals, addressed to conservation, maintenance and communication of tangible and intangible natural and cultural heritage of the world, present and future. ICOM was created back in 1946, it is a non-governmental organization (NGO) which is formally related to UNESCOand it is a formal United Nations Economic and Social Council advisory body. As a non-profit organisation, ICOMs funding sources are fundamentally its membership fees and the support of governmental institutions, and also of another type:
    • UNESCO – United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization
    • ICCROM – International Centre for the Study of the Preservation and Restoration of Cultural Property
    • IFLA – The International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions
    • ICA – International Council on Archives
    • ICOMOS – International Council on Monuments and Sites
    • ALECSO – The Arab League Educational Culture
    • MUSEDOMA – Museum Domain Management Association
    • WFFM – World Federation of Friends of Museums
    • WCO – World Customs Organization
    • INTERPOL – International Criminal Police Organization

ICOM has its seat in Paris (France), where UNESCO-ICOMs Secretary and theInformation Centre .26.000 members of ICOM from 139 different countries take part in organization’s national, regional and international activities: conferences, seminars, publications, trainings, joint programmes, and also promotion of museums by International Museum Day (May 18). These activities are developed by 115 National Committees   and 30 International Committees. Some National Committees are organized as well at the regional level by means of Regional Organisations in order to reinforce their activity. There are 15 International Partnerships affiliated to ICOM.
